76: Living in Las Vegas, Acting Like a Tourist

February 27, 2010

While there are certainly a few things making life in Las Vegas a bit tough for many of our fellow Las Vegans (unemployment and housing prices, for example), we love that we live in a city that was once our go-to place for weekend getaways. We’re just 30 minutes away from some of the best food, lodging and entertainment the country has to offer.

Which is pretty cool.

In this edition of the Living in Las Vegas Podcast, we review some of the touristy things we’ve been up to during the last couple of months. Show notes:

74: CityCenter: ARIA Hotel and Casino and Crystals

January 8, 2010

So anyways, we’ve been getting a lot of suggestions to visit the center of the city. . .but I have to tell you, I wasn’t all that impressed with US95 and Rancho. That’s when we realized, we shouldn’t have gone to the city’s center, but to CityCenter. In this edition of the Living in Las Vegas Podcast, we take 20+ videos to help us remember what $8.5Billion dollars can do when you put your mind to it. (Actually, we didn’t see all $8.5B worth. . .just Aria and Crystals. . .and it was puuurty.)  Show notes:

73: Hip Checks and Short Skirts - Roller Derby in Las Vegas

November 22, 2009

Call me crazy, but there’s something to be said for watching a bunch of woman whoosh around a roller rink, kicking the crap out of each other. The teamwork, the strategy, the action. . .the Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.

(At least, that’s what Tomahawk says.)

In this edition of the Living in Las Vegas Podcast, we discover the joy that is Woman’s Flat Track Roller Derby, featuring the Sin City Roller Girls.   Show notes:

72: Hanging Out on the Las Vegas Strip (and Why Las Vegas Locals Hate Doing So)

November 1, 2009

It’s a surprise to many Las Vegas tourists that a large number of Las Vegas locals hate hanging out on The Strip.  We, of course, do not belong to that category of Las Vegans.  We like visiting the coolest street in the USA. . .but understand why many locals don’t share our enthusiasm.

In this edition of the Living in Las Vegas Podcast, we talk about our last couple of visits to The Strip and introduce a new “cast member” to the Living in Las Vegas Podcast!  Show notes:

71: Late Night at ‘After the Show’ — A Treat for Las Vegas Locals

September 22, 2009

[Get this, we recorded this show at 2AM! Why? Read the show notes below. . .]

This is the perfect example of what makes being a Las Vegas local so cool!  Every Monday night, starting at 11:00PM and going until 1:00AM Tuesday morning, a half dozen or more Las Vegas performers get together to perform for each other “After the Show”, that is, after their regular gigs.  Even better, Las Vegas locals are invited to join the fun for free.

I’d heard about After the Show for some time and wanted to see what it was all about for ourselves.  So, this special late-night edition of the Living in Las Vegas Podcast features our review of one of the coolest ideas in town.  Show notes:

  • Weather Mid-90’s / LiLV Pool (Warm enough to dive in, cold enough to get right back out)
  • LiLV Stuff

70: One is Good, One is Bad: Las Vegas Hiking, Las Vegas Real Estate Agents

August 29, 2009

[Let’s set the mood. . .it’s a Saturday night. . .the studio lights have been dimmed. . .the red wine is ready and willing. . .what better time to record a Living in Las Vegas Podcast?]

Professionalism?  Las Vegas Real Estate “Professionals” calling.  We’re a little lost, here.  Can you send somebody over?

Okay, this wasn’t meant to be the main topic. . .and it’s not. . .but, for the love of all things reasonable, get it together Las Vegas real estate folks!  You’re making those of us who live here look bad!

On a positive note, after ranting about the nasty issues of real estate, this edition of the Living in Las Vegas Podcast talks about three places to hike, two of which I deemed “hiked” even though my definition of hiked and Melissa’s were not completely in line.  Show notes:

  • PHOTOS! (of the studio, post-show)

67: Southern Nevada Art Gallery in Downtown, Re-piping the House, Miss USA, Britney Spears

April 26, 2009

Recorded in front of a LIVE Streaming Video Audience! (click to see video)

Yep, we intended for this to be a quick show.  The idea was, instead of one main topic, let’s quick-hit a few topics and be done in 20-30 minutes.  An hour later, which included some fun back-and-forth with our live audience, this edition of the Living in Las Vegas Podcast features a great art gallery in downtown Las Vegas (at Neonopolis of all places), re-piping our entire house, watching the Miss USA preliminary competition and Melissa’s experience at Brit-Brit’s concert. Show notes:

March 22, 2009

Recorded in front of a LIVE Streaming Video Audience (click to see video)!

For many of us, the search for our origins has translated into thousands of dollars of therapy.  And while I’m certainly not one to criticize the need to lay (or is it lie?) on a couch and travel back in time to explore your childhood, allow me to suggest another avenue of discovery.  In this edition of the Living in Las Vegas Podcast, we feature our trip to Springs Preserve, an outstanding place to learn all about your history. . .if by “you” you mean Las Vegas.  Show notes:

  • PHOTOS!
  • Weather (for the love of God, enough with the wind and rain. . .it was beautiful a couple days ago!) / LiLV Pool (full of seat cushions)
