76: Living in Las Vegas, Acting Like a Tourist
February 27, 2010
While there are certainly a few things making life in Las Vegas a bit tough for many of our fellow Las Vegans (unemployment and housing prices, for example), we love that we live in a city that was once our go-to place for weekend getaways. We’re just 30 minutes away from some of the best food, lodging and entertainment the country has to offer.
Which is pretty cool.
In this edition of the Living in Las Vegas Podcast, we review some of the touristy things we’ve been up to during the last couple of months. Show notes:

One of our favorite things to do here in Las Vegas is to hang out at the LA Comedy Club. We’ve been fans of the comedy club since it launched at Palace Stations. It’s now located downtown at the Four Queens Casino.
Jay, the promoter for the show, has invited me to offer any local Las Vegan the opportunity to attend any show from Wednesday to Sunday FOR FREE**!!
Show times are Wed, Thur, and Fri at 8PM, and Sat at 7PM and 9PM. This weekend features comedians Willie Farrell and Rick D’Ellia.
There is no drink minimum. No “catch”. Jay is giving away these tickets to thank LV locals for making the LA Comedy Club the #1 comedy club in Las Vegas.
To get your free tickets, give Jay a call at 702.510.1611. Tell him Scott from the Living in Las Vegas Podcast sent you!
** Free? Well, there is a $4 “printing fee”.

The folks at Cirque du Soleil have a locals-only deal that’s pretty impressive. Locals get a second ticket to Mystere, O, LOVE, KA, BeLIEve, or Zumanity for $25. Considering tickets to some of these shows is well into the $100s, this is a great deal.
The offer expires on February 28, 2010. Additionally, those to take advantage of this deal will also receive:
- $25 gift certificate toward purchase of their next Cirque show
- 20% off goodies at Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil boutiques
As a reminder, this is a LOCAL’S ONLY deal. You must show proof of Nevada residency at the box office. There are some other limitations (for example, “O” is only available for their 10:30 show and are very limited).

Melissa just left a message on my office voice mail. . .Danny Gans, who was headlining at Encore (and was a long-time headliner at the Mirage) has died.
This is sad news. He was a classic Las Vegas act. . .of which there really aren’t many left.
According to TMZ, Mr. Gans died at 3AM in his home in Las Vegas. The news agency reports that his wife discovered his body and called for help.
Danny Gas was 57 52-years-old.

Now through May 31, Locals can purchase LOVE tickets starting at $60. That’s 40% OFF the original price! I don’t think you’ll find a deal better than this one, so purchase your tickets today by going here.

In need of a girl’s night out or have girlfriends in town? Then Chippendales at Rio is a must. No girls night out is complete without a male revue.
Chippendales is a fun, rowdy show that really gets the crowd excited (no pun intended). It’s a great start to a night out on the town. The best part? If the theatre isn’t full (which it usually isn’t), the attendants will move you closer to the stage. When I went, we bought peanut gallery tickets and ended up sitting fourth row center!
Now, Chippendales is offering locals tickets for $20 (regular priced tickets start at $39.95 plus taxes). To purchase, call 702-777-7776 and mention the Locals Offer.

One of the few shows that I really want to see but haven’t yet, is Le Reve. The show’s director used to work with Cirque du Soleil and supposedly Le Reve is ripe with Cirque-like acrobatics and choreography. For an in-depth review, check out this one.
Needless to say, I was very excited when I discovered that Wynn is offering 2-for-1 tickets to Le Reve. When I called and asked, the deal was described as “ongoing” and can be booked up to 90 days in advance.
Call 702-770-9966 and mention “Locals Offer” to buy tickets.

I’ve been lucky enough to see almost every show on the Strip. Far and away my favorite show is LOVE by Cirque du Soleil. No matter how many times I see it, I always notice something new. While you don’t have to be a Beatles fan to see the show, the music is so fantastic that you’ll probably become one after watching LOVE
Now through March you can get LOVE tickets for 25% OFF by going here. While this specific offer is available to everyone, the 25% off for Locals is available indefinitely. Just make sure to bring your Local ID when purchasing.

I have to admit that I’ve never seen Phantom at The Venetian, but I’ve only ever heard rave reviews. So, when I learned about $50 off tickets, I had to share! Now through March 31, receive $50 off the $120 and $150 ticket categories with your local I.D. Call 702-414-9000 to reserve tickets.

I’ve seen almost all the topless shows in Vegas and FANTASY is great if you’re looking for some light hearted fun. The singer, Stephanie, is fantastic at pumping up and engaging the crowd. Plus, can you really pass up the possibility of getting to go on stage and be Elvis?
The hottest Adult Revue for couples is offering 2-for-1 Fantasy tickets now through February 28.
Call 702-262-4400 or visit the Luxor Box Office with your Nevada I.D. to reserve tickets.
